MODERN LOVE

Love Actually: A good name for a movie which doesn’t know a bunch of love at all. That is what seems to happen to this easy-buying modern society, we think everything can be resolved as faster as a download -time. Money and technology rule the world of modern – and high-tech– globalization. We have been overloaded by cheap goods, most of them coming from China and usually of bad-quality… We have been overloaded by merchandise, the industry of entertainment, the profit, the possessions…

Love actually is a modern movie which talks about a “modern love”, an affordable and trading-like love as unendurable as money can be, reflecting how the world works nowadays. Consciously or not, the filmmakers convey part of this idea - whether shared by many people or not - into an unpretentious movie, easily bought by the audience. We are already numbed thus far, so the message implied in the movie passes completely unnoticed, unless if we make a deeper reflection. On the other hand, an also modern movie called “AI – Artificial Intelligence” set us in a future world where robots – or better saying, androids – resembling humans in every aspect, are prepared to perform a range of human tasks and also to imitate many of our behavior.

The “AI” movie background plot is about how love became so eagerly sought by the future society, because the capitalist love, quick and sensual, can’t replace the human thirsty for the real one. This quest is so desperate that there are androids specifically built for pleasure, the gigolos, and also kids-androids made to fill the loving care of childless mothers.  Pleasure and fun can’t fill our hungry heart for love, that’s the message of this movie. We may have forgotten how to feel and live love for now, but in our inner nature we know that our heart was made to share the best felling we possess, not to sell it.
